Okay, so I decided to go see Pride and Prejudice last night and I loved it. I had my misgivings, thinking it was likely to be cutesy and overly glossy, like the miniseries (my advance apologies to all the rabid fans of that series who love it like a religion.) But it wasn't. The hair was dishevelled and the dresses had muddy hems, and the characters were actual people, instead of the caricatures they're usually presented as. I found it entirely refreshing, and highly recommend it.
I would write a full review, but Abby IS coming this weekend, so this means I actually WILL have to go do some housecleaning.
In a little aside, I was nearly asphixiated (sp?!) to death today. I'm always going to wonder about that maintence guy for the rest of my life. He came to fix the sink, so I went in the other room and let him get on with it. When he left and I came back to the kitchen, there was an overpowering smell as if the gas were on, but I hadn't even used the oven or stove that morning or even the day before, and my mum is so religious about checking to make sure the gas is always off when she leaves, that I dismissed it, sure that it was something else. But when she came home she smelled it too, and she played about with the oven, convinced it was coming from there. But it turned out that someone had actually turned on one of the stove burners underneath the cookie sheet that had been left on the stove. And it was sticking out over the side so that you couldn't see that the nob was turned to the on position. Creepy.
