A little adventure
Dec. 30th, 2003 07:28 pmI've been running incredibly late today because this morning a lost cat came to our back door. It was obviously a housecat because it was wearing a collar, but unfortunately, the collar didn't have an ID tag on it. We figured it must have come from one of the apartments in our complex, because lots of them have cats, so I sat with it while my mum went around door to door asking if anybody had lost a cat.
We didn't want to bring it inside, since we didn't know how long it had been lost, or what it might have, so we brought up a patio chair for it to sit on, and I stood by the open door in my pajamas keeping an eye on it. My toes nearly froze off sitting there, and the poor thing must have been really scared, because it was mewing pitifully, and it was scratching at the door to get in. Every time we'd open the door to go in or out it would try to dart inside. We gave it some food, but it didn't touch it (though I can't say I blame it; it was yesterday's leftovers).
Finally Mum came back, and she hadn't found the owner, but there was a lady in the complex who had a cat and loved cats, and was willing to take this one in. So we could either give it to her, or we could keep it.
I love cats. I've wanted one forever, but we've never had one because mum has allergies, and they make you pay through the nose to have one in an apartment anyway. So if we kept it, it would have been only temporary, even if the owner never came for it. I wanted to say yes, just to have it for a little while, but I knew it'd be better to give it to the other lady, because if the owner never came for it, at least it wouldn't have to go to the humane society. So I stroked it's fur a few times, and then let Mum take it to the other lady's apartment, which is a lot better than getting all attached to it and then having to let it go. Now, thankfully, it will have a good home.
So that was the little adventure of the day, and at least while the cat was there we forgot about the bread pudding we were making, and it didn't turn out, so I was saved from having to sample Mum's bread pudding. (A far worse fate than you can imagine!)
So hurrah for little adventures. :)
