The Oscars were SO disappointing this year! I had hoped that after most of the big names being passed over for nominations in favor of real actors and smaller films that the actual awards would go much the same way, especially with how the awards went last year.

Unfortunately, because they moved the Oscars up to February, it didn't give enough time for the Academy voters to distance themselves from the hype of all the other awards shows, and really consider the nominees for their actual merit, and thus, it ended up being nothing but a replay of the Golden Globes, with no surprises at all.

I mean, I'm glad "Lord of the Rings" and Peter Jackson won, because it would have been sad and wrong if they hadn't, but everything else was just disappointing. Obviously Charlize Theron was going to win best actress no matter what, but for the love of god, couldn't they have surprised us in SOME category? ANY CATEGORY? With LOTR winning everything, you could even predict who'd win for sound mixing! (Which is just wrong, somehow. Nobody should be expected to predict categories like that!)

At least the red carpet was fun; generally it's the best part anyhow. Adrien Brody was there, looking gorgeous, so that made it all worth it for me, I suppose. ;-D

And a horrible fashionista like myself can hardly resist the chance for an intensive, slightly snarky commentary on all those actresses in designer dresses. :-D

Ah, well, even though the awards themselves were disapointing, I'm still hopelessly addicted to the glamour of Oscar-ness, so off I go to find "People" magazine to read about all the parties and the gossip and drown myself in it like a good little wannabe. (Could Hollywood handle the confessions of a REAL teenage drama queen, I wonder?)
