Feb. 7th, 2008 08:30 pmHooray! I actually started on my medieval dress! *gasp* I always knew hell would have to freeze over in order for that to happen, and I think it actually might have; at the very least, the very day after I cut out the first piece, we had the biggest blizzard in decades! Seeing as the snow is knee deep or more in most places, and driving nearly impossible, I'll certainly have lots of time to work on it! Which I'll need since I discovered after I'd started cutting it out that the fabric stretches. And it's striped. One way stripes. Oh yeah. That's going to be fun - NOT! But I remain undaunted, and soldier on bravely in the face of adversity. Go me! :)
Masterpiece Theatre was a disappointment last weekend. Miss Austen Regrets was dreadful, as I expected, and I have no idea why they included it in their Complete Jane Austen series anyway. I shall have to simply wait through ye olde versions of P&P and Emma and hope that the new S&S is decent. I don't expect it to be good, but decent would be nice!
I really don't know why I bother to watch Torchwood at all. It's so cheesy and predictable. I liked Captain Jack tremendously in the first season of Doctor Who, but he's really bland and dull in Torchwood, I feel like they changed the character a lot and there's not much left that's interesting. Add to that all the other uninteresting characters and the plot 'twists' that you can see coming a mile away, and it's a terribly disappointing show. The worst thing is that it takes itself too seriously. At least on Doctor Who, everyone knows it's campy and has fun with it, but Torchwood is trying so despereatly to be 'edgy' and 'deep' that it just ends up looking trite and pompous. And adding all the sex and swearing actually makes it seem like a more immature show than Doctor Who as well, which is certainly not helping it go in the direction that it's trying to go in. All in all, a disappointment. Thank goodness for figure skating, otherwise I might have nothing to watch on TV at all! Or I might have to read! Which I've been doing far too much lately, but I can't help myself when I find a new book about the Romanovs. I'm such a geek. ;-D
