Finally put together the medieval dress, but it's way too big and will need to be taken in considerably. And now I'm not sure if I want to still make it into a dress, or make it into a surcoat and make a plain dress to go under it, because in it's current state it reminds me very much of a pretty striped surcoat from a lovely medieval Italian fresco. Decisions, decisions!

I've been thinking how cool it would be to take up ornamental hair work, like in the 19th century when they used to braid or curl human hair cuttings and put them into brooches and lockets and things. I just read this book called Perfect Likeness which is an exhibition catalog book of antique portrait miniatures that included quite a few hair work pieces. I'm not afraid to admit I have lovely hair; it looks brown at first sight but glints red and gold in the light, and it would make a lovely piece of jewelry, plus it would be neat to have it preserved for posterity like that. But the thing is, are there still books about how to do ornamental hair work???

I'm very bad. I watched Marie Antoinette again last night and now I want to make 18th century gowns when I haven't even finished the medieval dress! I suppose I could always make that sacque-back doll dress I've been meaning to make for ages...;-D
