opera! (and cats!)
Aug. 7th, 2010 04:48 pmCaught the Metropolitan Opera's latest production of "Carmen" on a late night re-run of Great Performances the other day, it was awesome! I'm not a big opera person, but I do try to catch one every now and then, or at least as much as I can take before I start to fall asleep! I love the pretty singing and costumes and whatnot, but operas move SO slowly! I think Carmen has always been so popular because it moves along at a pretty zippy pace (for an opera!), and Carmen is such a charismatic character. Elina Garanca (I think that was her name? I'm not terribly up on the names of opera singers) was really fabulous as Carmen. It all makes me wish even more that I'd got that "Catropolitan Opera" t-shirt I found for $7 last week, but it looked too small, so I didn't even try it on. *cries* The Catropolitan Opera by the way, is a great fun book by Susan Herbert full of paintings of scenes from great operas as performed by a company of cats; it sounds terrible, but trust me, it's very pretty and funny and too cool for words, and it's what got me really interested in finding out more about opera when I first read it years ago. :)
