newmoonstarI'm glad February is over with. The Olympics are such an emotional rollercoaster for a figure skating fan. I almost wish Michelle Kwan would have competed, just so that if Sasha or Irina didn't win that SOMEBODY worthy could have been the Olympic champion. I like Shizuka Arakawa just fine, but she's not a great skater in the same they all are. At least I have the truly satisfying podium in the Men's event to cheer me up.
Masterpiece Theatre is a much more enjoyable emotional rollercoaster when it's good, and Bleak House was good. I literally cried when Ric died. Ric and Ada! OMG why!? It's just too tragic. Lady Dedlock I didn't mind so much because characters like her are specifically invented to die tragically, and I knew she was marked for death from the beginning. But Ric! Oh why? That was almost as bad as when Sasha Cohen fell. The SECOND time.
I've been thoroughly steeping myself in Masterpiece Theatre lately, my holds on Our Mutual Friend and The Barchester Chronicles having finally come in at the library. The combination of Our Mutual Friend and Bleak House having been so interesting has made me contemplate (and only contemplate!) actually reading some Dickens someday. I'm still a little too frightened by the truly alarming thickness of the man's books to commit myself though.
I've been contemplating reading some Trollope for a long time, and Barchester Chronicles may have finally pushed me to it. I almost finished watching the whole series, but I had to return it to the library before I saw the last episode, so now I'm just dying for the ending! I may be forced to read Barchester Towers if I can't get the DVD again soon. But I'm really desperate for the DVD, Geraldine McEwan and Alan Rickman are SO good in it. I never would have thought of her to play Miss Marple if I'd have seen her as Mrs. Proudie first; she is so scary! And Alan Rickman's such a slimy Slope! They're both masterpieces of evil if ever I've seen it on sceen. It's just too delicious for words! Required viewing.
I need to find some Bleak House icons. Or Barchester Chronicles. ;-D
