sewing and skating

The medieval dress is being evil; it refuses to fit properly, but I think the main obstacle to getting it done is just that I really don't know what I want it to be. It's kind of hard to sew something when you're not sure if you want it to be a surcote or a dress. Now I wonder if I should just move on and start another dress and work on that until I figure out what I'm doing with this one! Ugh!!!!
However, Worlds was so awesome this year and has made me so happy that I almost don't care about the dress being naughty. I can't believe Jeffrey Buttle actually won. It's just too awesome that the artistic guy actually beat the quad guy. That never happens! I was so in shock! Once Brian Joubert laid down a clean freeskate I was thinking there's no way Jeffrey Buttle can win now. All I really hoped was that he'd skate his "Ararat" program clean because it's so pretty and I'd never seen him skate it clean before. And then he did and I was overjoyed, and really thought he deserved to win, but I'd resigned myself to the fact that he'd probably end up second cause they always give it to the guy with the most quads, and getting to see him skate so well was prize enough. But then those marks! They actually rewarded a skater for artistry and actual skating ability! I still can't believe it! But he totally deserved it; I never thought a guy could be graceful and sylph-like, but there's just no other way to describe that program, and his skating in general.
One disappointment in the men's event was Stephane Lambiel, his "Poeta" program was the other program I was really hoping to finally see skated clean, because he has such great connection with the music in it and such intensity in the straight line footwork especially, that's beautiful to behold. Stephane is one of those skaters that really has the whole package going for him if he can get it together, and I really hope he doesn't give up skating after the past couple of seasons being so rough, he's too good for that! I'd miss him terribly!
I'm happy with the results in pairs, ice dance and ladies too. And I'm a little smug about Belbin and Agosto not making the podium. It was the mistake in the compulsories that caused it, I know, but I really think it's where they deserve to be, after seeing all the other great couples skate such amazing freedances, they just looked very flat and uninteresting. Having perfect smiles is not a substitute for technical content, nor is being pleased with yourselves at being 'the favorites' the same thing as having actual expression. I really feel they're more hype than content, and maybe now with them knocked down a peg, people will take more notice of young teams with real talent, like Virtue and Moir, who are so amazingly beautiful and capable, and not just for a young team, but for any team, any age.
And while I'm being picky, I'll say how much I wish they'd get rid of that stupid age limit on how old you have to be to go to Worlds and the Olympics, it's so ridiculous and arbitrary. If they can skate at this level now, why hold them back? It hurts the whole US team, and surely many others. The US would have had higher results and thus more spots for their team in the ladies and probably pairs too at these Championships if they'd have sent the younger girls like Rachael Flatt and Mirai Nigasu instead of Kimmie Meissner, and Bebe Liang, though I am happy that Bebe finally got a chance to go to Worlds! She's a skater that I really like; I remember when she was twelve at her first Nationals. (Nothing makes you feel old like watching figure skating!)
I could go on and on forever, so I'll stop myself, but the point is Worlds was awesome, lots of great skaters gave some really great performances, and actually got rewarded for it. There's nothing better than that. :)
