4th of July & random stuff...
Jul. 5th, 2015 01:34 amDidn't do anything for July 4th, yet again. Much as I'd like to go out & watch fireworks, driving around & trying to find a place to park, and then slogging through crowds of drunk people just to find a patch of grass to sit on, or worse, having to stand for an hour, is just too much work! So I stayed home to eat ice cream & watch 'The Music Man' instead, as usual. I regret nothing!
I'm going to need a day of rest before next week anyway- I've got meetings & rehearsals for the play I'm stage manager of every day this week. o_O It's really coming together, & I'm very glad to be a part of it- it's an anti-bullying piece aimed at teenagers, and I'm very proud to be part of a show that's raising awareness about what bullying looks like these days, but it's SO exhausting. There was some major drama with having to replace a cast member who didn't disclose to us that he was a convicted felon under house arrest(!) and I'm just hoping to heaven that that's the weirdest thing I'll have to deal with in this show! *fingers crossed*
So basically I'm just watching Doctor Who & trying to relax for the past few days. I finally broke down & bought 'The Ark' on DVD, & despite the fact that it's kind of disappointing as a follow-up to 'The Daleks Master Plan' & 'The Massacre', taken on it's own, it's a very well-written story with really cool, creative sets & costumes, & I've always liked it. (Yes, even though the Monoids look crappy!)
I also went to the little Doctor Who night Barnes & Noble had the other day, & got some fun Whovian swag, and I dressed up in my Susan Foreman cosplay, which I didn't expect anyone to recognize (& they didn't) but I just wanted to do a test run of the new wig I got for it. I think it looked pretty good in photos, and the hilarious thing about obscure cosplay is that I was able to go to the mall & the grocery store in it, & no one knew it was a costume! But now I've got to get started on my non-Whovian cosplays for this summer's convention. So much work. Maybe I'll put it off until after this play closes...

Date: 2015-07-06 12:17 am (UTC)Susan seems like the kind of cosplay you could wear every day, if you felt like it. Though it would be nice to see your hard work recognized.
I sort of really want a Doctor Who-themed tshirt (is that tacky?) (I don't care) but none of the shirts at the local bookstore are suitable -- they're either a little too ugly, or they are some kind of innuendo about the wearer's sexual attraction to the Doctor, which would be inaccurate in my case (and not something I would wear even if it was accurate).
Good luck with the play, and the costumes!

Date: 2015-07-06 04:20 am (UTC)Doctor Who themed T-shirts are definitely not tacky! At least, I hope not, because I own several, heehee. But yeah, it's hard to find good ones in women's sizes. There seems to be a myth that female Doctor Who fans only watch because they think David Tennant and/or Matt Smith is sexy- which couldn't be further from the truth in my case. I got a whole bunch of Doctor Who tees at Hot Topic a few years ago- they had one for each of the Classic Doctors for the 50th anniversary (all in boys sizes, of course) but they fit me just fine, so I snapped them up! Most of the time when t-shirts say 'unisex', they actually mean 'men' and 'women- if you don't mind looking like a sack of potatoes', LOL. Try TeeFury.com also, none of their designs are gender-specific, and they used to have a ton of nice Doctor Who stuff. :)
Also, I love your Major Kira icon!
