Bookish Ramblings (my specialty!)
Nov. 12th, 2002 05:49 pmHARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX IS COMING SOON! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
Sorry, I just have to scream for Harry. :-D
Knowing the title makes book 5 seem that much closer. Although from what I read it won't be coming out for a while. I'd like to believe the Christmas rumors I've heard, but I have decided not to get my hopes up. I'm actually a little apprehensive. There will be like twelve million holds on it at the library, and you have to pay to rent it when it first comes out. I think it'll probably be cheaper just to buy the darn thing. But I literally have no money and this will not likely improve in the coming months. Arg. So the options open to me consist of a) paying through the nose to get the book right away or b) waiting around FOREVER until the rush has died down to check it out from the library. Neither is particularly appealing. I remember with the Goblet of Fire there were waiting lists for six months after they got it at the library. But it'll probably cost around $30 for the new hardcover at the bookstore. Arg. Whoever said there was romance in being a peniless writer was out of their fricking mind.
Anyhoo, I musn't dwell on bad things when there are so many good things in life. Like L.M. Montgomery books, which you don't have to pay for. I just finished "Anne of Avonlea" last night, and needless to say, I adore it. I adore all of Maud Montgomery's books. She's my leader. To say the Emily books are my favorite books ever is a vast understatement. They're like my soul on paper. Reading them was the most profound experience of my life. I'm not even kidding. They're more than mere novels. I can't even describe it. And it thrills me to the core to discover other people who are fans. Hurray for ashfae! I must admit too that I would rather have Gilbert than Teddy, but that's mainly because of Jonathan Crombie. ::giggle:: Without consideration for the miniseries, everything in the Emily books vastly outranks the Anne books for me. But I love them both. :)
On another good note, the novel I'm working on is coming along splendidly. (As in it's gotten past the first chapter, which in and of itself is a victory.) But this one I'm SERIOUSLY going to try and finish. I probably just jinxed it by saying that, but I'm just SO proud of myself that I can't help it. I have a feeling about this one. And I'm going to finish it if it kills me. The last novel I finished nearly did, but this one is not as, well, serious, I guess you could say. It's horribly under-researched, terribly melodramatic, and has lots of secrets and murder and mayhem, and flashbacks to the French Revolution. It's not my usual fare, and I'm having a deliciously good time with it. It's the '1809 Napoleonic France story' I mentioned once to Kelly, and nobody should expect to see any of it for a while, because I want to feel a little more secure with it first. But I assure poor Kelly that she will be the first to read when it bcomes available, if she so desires. :)
Speaking of stories, the Percy fic HAS been sent to Sherrie', as well as to Kelly. There is only one little part to it so far, and I have no idea when I will get to finishing it. I SHALL finish it though, and it probably won't be that long, so hopefully if it's not as amusing as I think it is no one will be too inconvenienced. I have to explain that the idea for it just came to me one night, and I giggled over it so much that my mum kept demanding to know what was so funny. Accordingly I began writing it so that she wouldn't think I was crazy. But she probably still does because she doesn't read Harry Potter and doesn't understand it at all, so that goal may not have been accomplished, but I have amused myself and hopefully others, and that's satisfying enough for me. :-D

Date: 2002-11-13 08:32 am (UTC)Mmm, Gilbert! I love the Emily books, and I love the Anne books, but actually my favorite Montgomery is a solo novel called The Blue Castle....that's the one I love best somehow. Valancy is niftiness incarnate.
I want to read the Percy story, too! When it's finished and posted, would you let me know? *looks all hopeful*
