Jun. 28th, 2010 07:11 pmI missed the Tony Awards. ARG!! Not that I actually care who wins, it's just that I like to keep up to date with the new musicals. My mother, who HATES award shows of any kind, and complains whenever I watch the Tonys, says to me: "Oh yes, it was on, I watched it, I didn't know YOU wanted to see it!" WTF?? I could scream. And they had a revival of Finian's Rainbow this year. My favorite musical. After all the years of sitting through numbers from crap like Xanadu and saying "I wish they'd revive somthing good, like Finian's Rainbow!" they finally do, and I miss it. Lovely. Just freaking lovely. Why do I bother?
On the upside, I've been cooking up a secret project: An English Regency Society! I'm only in the earliest planning stages, but if it works out it could be a lot of fun. I'm thinking of something with monthly meetings where we'd discuss books or films or have workshops or lectures on historical themes, and then costumed events like balls and picnics every so often in addition. Start-up costs are really my biggest hurdle at this point, since I don't have anybody else in on it yet, but I've just found the local Costumer's Society, and apparently they have some historical costumers, so that might be a good place to drum up interest. So we'll see how it goes! I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
And on a totally unrelated note, I still hate doctors. It never fails that they'll try to give you a cure that's worse than the disease. Is lack of common sense a requirement for getting through medical school? Good grief! ARG!!
