Am wearing a new red and gold sweater today, and consequently am feeling a surge of Gryffindor pride. :-D I think I'm a Gryffindor, since I got Gryffindor on most of the quizzes I've taken, except for one time I got Hufflepuff. (As if this is all so important! Oh heck, sure it is!)

Well, Christmas is coming. Joy. <--sarcasm, in case anyone didn't notice.

My mother is obsessed with bad Christmas movies. The really horrible, sappy, made for TV ones are her favorites. Last night she made me tape the end of one she was watching because she had to go to bed early. Arg. I HATE these movies! They are a waste of film! I hate having to watch them every Christmas. Mom doesn't care how bad it is as long as it's about Christmas. I'm sorry, but poor written, poorly acted, peices of cheesy, overly preachy, sentimental mush does not put me in the holiday spirit.

Don't get me wrong, I like Christmas. I even have quite a few Christmas movies of my own that I HAVE to watch. Like all those cute Rankin/Bass stop-motion animation movies with Rudolph, and Santa, and the Burgermeister Meisterburger. And I have been known to go around singing the Snow Miser song. Loudly. ;-D

But at least those are genuinely cute. The movies my mom likes are so, well, full of crap, to put it mildly. I want something sincere, like Raymond Briggs 'Father Christmas'. I have the book and I just love it. I wish they'd show the the TV special of it again. It's irreverent, but it's got more heart than the Family Channel's sappy romantic Christmas movie o'the week.

On the subject of Christmas, I must send out Christmas cards soon. I found these really brilliant Edward Gorey Christmas cards after Christmas last year, and I've been waiting since last year to send them. I wish I could show them to everybody, they're SO hilarious. Mom thinks they're a little too esoteric and macabre for Christmas, but to that I say BAH! Who cares? I love 'em!

We may not put up the Christmas tree this year. Now that we've re-arranged the living room furniture there isn't any room for a tree. Am not sure how I feel about this. It's just a tree right? And I always hate putting it up and taking it down. But I've always had a tree of some sort. Will it still be Christmas without a tree? Where will the presents go? (Well, I know for a fact that among my presents this year are Harry and Hermione dolls, so come to think of it, I don't care where they go as long as I get them. The Harry doll has cool accesories, like a broomstick and a Sorting Hat, and a little tiny Hedwig. Hehehe! Ah, the sweet smell of avarice! And Potter avarice is the sweetest yet! ;-D)

Once again, I have been swooped down upon and am being forced off the 'puter. Oh well, it's probably for the best. I've got a million Christmas related ramblings that the world would not necessarily benefit from hearing! ;-D

Oh, cool Miranda! I'm always a Gryffindor myself on those quizzes. And on the HP character ones I'm always Ron. :) Nice to meet a fellow Gryffindor!

I don't like the made-for-TV Christmas movies either. I've got my favorites, which include "The Santa Clause", "The Grinch", "Frosty the Snowman (animated)", and a couple of others. I can even put up with "Miracle on 34th Street" (newer version). But the Hallmark ones that air on TV and never really take off are kind of boring. No offense to people who like them! :)

HP dolls!! Whee! Sounds like a nice Christmas you've got coming! :)
