Halloween

It's Halloween, and I have no plans at all this year, so why not write my inagural livejournal entry?

Well, let's see, I don't really have much to write about today, precisely because I have no plans. Except that my mum is insistant upon using this holiday as an excuse to make us sit down for a nice family dinner. Oy. Halloween is not about family togetherness! It's about candy! (Oh, for the days when I used to go trick-or-treating with my friends!)
I can't believe I'm going to have to eat turkey. Ick. And WITHOUT cranberry sauce. This is brutal. Isn't it enough that I break my vows of vegetarianism on Thanksgiving? Oh well, at least I've still got left over lemon birthday cake. Yum. Although, it was made on my birthday, which was about a week ago, so I'm not sure how fresh it is anymore. But do I care? Eh, probably not!

Even though my days of dressing up in a costume and going trick-or-treating are behind me, I still feel festive when Halloween rolls around. It always has been my favorite holiday. I have a million cute Halloween stories I could tell, but mercifully I won't, because it'll make me too nostalgic. I always get nostalgic on holidays; this year's case en point: I actually talked my mom into buying me a new witch hat for my birthday, because for I think three years in a row I went as a witch, and had a very nice witch hat that has since disappeared into the abyss of my closet. Now, a witch hat has absolutely no practical use, but I just HAD to have one. And now it sits on the living room coffee table because no one knows what to do with it. And yet I'm oddly satisfied. I would have been more satisfied still if I'd have talked her into buying me the cauldron too, for I had a really awesome cauldron that went with the aforementioned witch costume, and it would've made my Halloween nostalgia-fest complete to get a new one, but mom wouldn't go for it, and I wasn't going to plunk down some of my own money for something so useless. (Isn't it fun to be hypocritical?) But, actually, since then I've still been wanting the cauldron, because on further contemplation, I could use it for a Harry Potter cauldron and fill it with Jelly-Belly beans and say they're Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans, and therefore humor my Harry Potter obsession. So I'm going to go to the fabric store after Halloween and buy the cauldron on clearance. Yes, I know, I'm probably insane. But hey, it's Halloween; why not?
