wellness, Thomas Hardy, drawing
Apr. 5th, 2005 04:47 pmHurrah! I'm well again! *dances for joy* And just in time for the nice weather! (We've apparently skipped spring altogether here, and moved right from winter to summer in the space of two weeks!)
So I've got enough strength to acutally concentrate on reading once more, and I've finally started reading Rilla of Ingleside. I needed something intelligent after all the crap movies I've been watching while I've been ill, such as Tess of the D'Urbervilles. I can't believe I actually sat through the whole thing, because I loathe Thomas Hardy with a passion. If the Brontes are overrated, people are utterly delusional about Thomas Hardy. All his books are depressing pieces of drivel about people who suffer pointlessly and die at the end. Why would ANYBODY like that stuff?
Happily, I've gotten back to drawing again, which I haven't done in ages. I basically just copied a Victorian fashion plate from Harper's Bazar, but it came out very nicely, which is encouraging, and I'll probably go on to more ambitious projects with the colored pencils. (Ooh, such is the extent of my wild thrill-seeking: drawing a picture in COLOR! My life is so uneventful; and my mother is mad at me because I don't do my chores? She should realize how lucky she is in this day and age to have a daughter who spends all her time reading and drawing and otherwise engaging in the most genteel and Victorian pursuits imaginable instead of partying and drinking and doing drugs and god knows what else my former friends are up to at this very moment!)
All that being said, I'm so glad summer is here so I can wear all my sexy flirty summer dresses again! ;-D
