Okay, so because I don't have ESPN, I got someone I know to tape the World Figure Skating Championships for me this year, and I just got to watching it the other day. WHOA. The only competition I've seen all of is the Mens, but WHOA! I felt so bad for poor Evegeny Plushenko; I love him to death and I wish he could have won in front of his home crowd, but it made it so much more exciting to watch once he was gone, because you didn't know who was going to win! I haven't experienced that in skating in... well... practically EVER. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time!

Stephane Lambiel was really good, and it's so comforting to know that even if they aren't big names, good skaters can still win world titles. I'm actually really glad Brian Joubert messed up so bad, because I hate his freeskate this year. You can see Alexei Yagudin's influence all over it, and I hate that, because what hubris of Alexei Yagudin must have to think that his style of skating is just going to work for everybody. It doesn't. Let Brian Joubert skate lkie Brian Joubert, instead of being Alexei Yagudin's Mini-Me. Hopefully he'll take a hint from what happened at Worlds this year, and next year he'll come back with his own style instead of imitating someone else's.

I wish Evan Lysacek hadn't knocked Johnny Weir off the podium, I like Johnny's skating better; it's pretty, like a girl. And I mean that as a total compliment. Usually the girls skate much more gracefully and beautifully than the men do, and it's nice to see that there's a whole crop of young guys now that have a dancerish quality to their skating, it's very flowy and musical, and I really love that. Jeffrey Buttle is one of them, so I'm really happy about his silver medal.

Emanuel Sandhu is one of the others to fall into this category, and I wish he would be more consistant. Maybe I'd actually get to see him skate from time to time then; they don't air programs from skaters below the top 5. If he could just get his damn jumps in order, he would be the best. Literally THE BEST. Nothing gets to me like an amazing skater who can't live up to their potential. An evil thing, potential. I bet HE'S sick of hearing the word by now! Maybe it'll motivate him to work on his stupid jumps! I mean, I'd rather watch Emanuel Sandhu skate without a single jump than have to sit through a whole heap of little jumping-bean skaters with no artistry, but you cannot get ahead in skating without jumps because it's still a sport. You have to do well in the sport before you can go pro and focus entirely on to being an artist. Which sucks, but it's the way of the world. And speaking of wondeful skaters with unrealized potential, I still have yet to watch the rest of the ladies competition, but Michelle Kwan was terrible in the Qualifying Round, so hopefully there's hope for Sasha Cohen yet! ;-D

In another 'whoa'-inducing vein, I just found out that the Nicholas Meyer who wrote The Seven Per Cent Solution is the same Nicholas Meyer who directed and co-wrote Star Trek II, IV and VI! Who would have thought? And those are the even numbered ones, so obviously the man must be a good storyteller on some level, and seems perfectly able to successfully re-interperet a pre-existing canon, so why was Seven Per Cent Solution so mediocre? Such eternal questions have I to ponder...
