sewing, Narnia, more sewing
Feb. 8th, 2006 07:17 pmI've started sewing again! Yay! I was always really good at sewing by hand when I was a kid, so I figured that instead of waiting around for my mum to get out the sewing machine to make all the historical doll costumes I've designed, I'd just give hand-sewing them myself a whirl. My first attempt was a medieval dress for a skipper doll, and considering it's the first thing I ever made that wasn't basically two-dimensional (pillows and beanie baby clothes being the extent of my childhood projects) it turned out pretty well. And the scariest part of it all is, I had FUN doing it. I had a feeling of perfect joy and contentment sitting in a chair and sewing. I'm very afraid of the heights to which my geekdom is ascending! ;-D
Saw The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe a while ago and loved it. The little girl who plays Lucy is the cutest thing ever. The scenes with her and Mr. Tumnus were my favorites, they were so sweet and captured that childlike sense of wonder you feel when you read the books for the first time as a kid. I think it'd be great if they made the rest of the series into movies but I don't know how they'd do it, what with how the books skip around time-wise. They'd probably have to recast the kids a lot, which would be weird and screw up the continuity of the films. Still, I really would like to see a big-screen version of The Horse and His Boy...
I finally found the perfect trim to go with this grey fabric that I wanted to make a Renaissance costume out of because I've got so much of it. I'll have to wait for Mum on this one though, because handsewing a whole Renaissance lady's dress is suicidal, and Mum won't let me near our severely tempermental sewing machine without her supervision, and I'm not going to have her as a back-seat driver, so I just let her do it. And we'd better start now if we want to be finished by the spring. Apparently there are tons of Renaissance faires around here in the spring. *rubs hands eagerly*
"Vibrate" is my absolute favorite Rufus Wainwright song. *sigh*
