Jan. 16th, 2003 06:21 pmGrr. I've been trying to reply to everyone's journals, but none of my replies are getting posted! Grr!
But it's been that kind of day. I'm taking my comfort in reminding myself that Harry Potter book 5 will be coming in June. JUNE! What will I do till then? Uh, maybe get some writing of my own done...just a thought! I've been so negletful of it lately, as previously mentioned. But, at the risk of sounding like a total airhead, PLOTTING IS HARD!
I'm not a very 'plotty' writer. Characters, settings, these things flow like water for me, but coming up with actual plots to them in is always a struggle for me. I blame my reading habits. All my favorite authors lived about a century ago, when novels didn't require concrete plots. Honestly, Maud Montgomery's "The Story Girl" literally has no plot at all. Each chapter is just different adventure that the children have throughout the summer. That sort of writing is easy for me. But right now I'm writing a story which is at least supposed to be a mystery, and necessarily has a plot which needs to be followed. I know what's going to happen, but actually getting there is exasperating.
Yes, I'm done whining. I don't really have any right to whine about writing anyway, because I love it more than anything, and I love struggling to come up with this stupid plot even if I don't always admit it.
Have noticed that all my favorite songs are somewhat sad. Very beautiful, but kind of melancholy. Case in point: been listening lately to "Landslide" (Fleetwood Mac or Dixie Chicks versions both rock), "Goodbye" (favorite Spice Girls song, has been called my theme song before), "Hey Jude" (what would I do without the Beatles?), and "Fields of Gold" (the Eva Cassidy version, which I first heard when Michelle Kwan skated to it a few years back, and have loved ever since.)
Which reminds me, US Nationals is this Saturday! Which caught me completley by surprise because for some reason I thought nationals were in February. Aren't they usually? Or am I just completely mad? Who knows. Everybody root for Sarah Hughes! Or Sasha Cohen. Wouldn't it be cool if one of them dethroned Michelle Kwan? But COULD it happen? Ooh, Nationals is going to be SO exciting this year! :-D
