Nov. 2nd, 2006 05:55 pmThanks to my insane mother, I was forced to spend Halloween housecleaning. So much for going clubbing in a pirate costume. But if I had nobody would have appreciated an historically acurate pirate costume anyway. Every woman you see on Halloween nowadays is always in one of those 'sexy pirate' costumes. Or 'sexy witch'. Or 'sexy nurse'. Or even sexy zombie, sexy umpire, sexy clown, sexy just about anything. I swear I've seen it all. Am I the only one who sees something wrong with a generation who thinks of Halloween as nothing more than an excuse to go out in public looking like a ho?
Social commentary aside, I've got the perfect fabric for a Regency dress for myself, I pinned it on my dress form and it looked beautiful, and so hopefully soon I will be embarking on my first non-doll dress for which I will not be relying on a pattern, but on my own design. There's something so incredibly cool and exciting about that! And then once I have it made I'll be able to go as Jane Austen for Halloween, which I've always thought would be fun. Actually, this fabric is a little exotic and suggests Natasha Rostova from War and Peace to me more than Jane Austen, but NOBODY would get that!
Unfortunately, the 18th century is calling to me even more now that I've watched yet another version of Casanova, which also had gorgeous costumes. And I really want to see Marie Antionette. I've never been terribly interested in her, but nobody in the 18th century had better clothes, and isn't that really what it's all about? ;-D
