newmoonstarOkay, well, I'm going to the costuming symposium. Most of the classes I want are all at the same time (urgh!) but hey, even if I can only go to half the classes I want, how often do costuming symposiums appear right in one's own hometown?
The downside, of course, is that costumes are required not just for the social bits, but in the classes too. Which, if you ask me, is incredibly stupid considering that this IS Wisconsin at the end of November, and there is snow EVERYWHERE, and the classes are spread throughout three buildings that are pretty far away from eachother, with only a 5 minute interval between classes. What the heck are we supposed to do, wear parkas and thinsulate gloves with our farthingales and houppelandes? I'm a little afraid, since the only dresses I have made are Italian Renaissance gowns, which were designed for summer faires, but maybe I can whip up a cloak or something... oy.
And I have yet to find a suitable headcovering for my dress for the ball. Now that my hair is short, it looks terrible with these costumes, so I have to put it up in something so that you can't tell it's short. I have a beautiful silk scarf which I can tie into a turban to go with my day dress, but my ball dress doesn't match to ANYTHING. *fret fret fret*
So, naturally, with all these things to worry about, I have had no time at all for my poor neglected 1869 doll dress. Maybe I'll have it finished within the year? *crosses fingers*
