Christmas is so close! I only get really Christmas-ish about a week beforehand. I finally sent off my Christmas cards (whew!). I made them myself this year, and since I couldn't get to a color copy machine, I hand colored each and every one. With the result that each one is a little different, because I just had to experiment, and my arm is very tired, because that's a lot of coloring!
I love Christmas cookies. The butter spritz we made this year are the best ever. I'm devouring them at a shocking rate. The gingerbread men, on the other hand, aren't so good, but I'm accustomed to store bought, and homemade are bound to be different. As if this weren't enough, Mum gets an urge to make oatmeal chocolate chip cookies the other day. So, basically, if I come through the holidays not looking like a great fat snowman, I'll be quite pleased!
Still no luck with the sewing machine, so I've gone back to doll clothes for a while. The 1869 doll dress is sorta finished, I like the overskirt gathered in the back because it gives it a proper bustle look and controls the fullness on the sides, but I don't know if I should tie back the fronts of the overskirt with rosettes like in the picture, or leave it plain (which I kind of like better).
Back to reading again, after a long dry November too filled up with costuming woes to leave time for reading. Having Murder Must Advertise staring me in the face all that time, unable to find time to read it, was just torture. But now I'm nearly finished, and it tortures me still every moment I'm not reading it! These Wimsey books are freaking impossible to put down! How I love Lord Peter. And I just love the whole ambiance. I've taken to writing down particularly expressive words and phrases from the books, and challenging myself to use them in daily life. So far, I've only managed "Cheer-frightfully-ho!", but I'm waiting for the perfect opportunity to exclaim that something is "the lobster's dress-shirt", "the caterpillar's boots", or "the snail's ankles"! :D
