Had a terrible headache over the weekend and couldn't go to the Medieval faire. So that sucked, but at least I don't feel so bad about not making that medieval dress after all! ;-D
Just discovered a DVD of Raffles at the library. Am in love. It's like a bad, wrong, twisted version of Sherlock Holmes and it's AWESOME. Victorian gentleman theives. I don't think there's any way I wouldn't have loved it. Of course, I wasn't expecting it to be that great, since most of the BBC stuff from the 70's tends to be a bit slow moving, but this was just too hilarious and lovely and delicious for words. I've got the second DVD on hold and I'm absolutely dying to get it.
I've also got the new Georgia Nicolson book. Speaking of hilarious! I haven't been able to start it yet because I can't read it when my mum's in the room. It always make me laugh so hard and she's always interrupting me demanding to know what's so funny. Shall have to hide out in my bedroom and read it when I get the time. And bring a box of cookies. And life will be perfect. :)

Date: 2007-10-02 03:35 pm (UTC)Y'know, I checked out Dorothy Sayers after reading one of your past posts....and I owe you a humongous thanks! She is awesome. I used to be into Agatha Christie, but Sayers > Christie. I would take Lord Peter over Hercule Poirot, or even Miss Marple, any day.

Date: 2007-10-06 09:46 pm (UTC)(And Murder Must Advertise is fabulous.)
I don't really have any other books to recommend at the moment, I'm working on some new BBC DVDs, that's usually how I decide what to read next! If the TV adaptation is good, I'll check out the book! And I heartily recommend the adaptations of Strong Poison, Have His Carcase, and Gaudy Night. The DVDS are packaged as "Dorothy L. Sayers Mysteries" and they're the reason I read the books. Edward Petherbridge and Harriet Walter are perfect as Peter and Harriet and I dare anybody not to love them. Gaudy Night was considerably abbreviated, but it was true to the emotional core of the book, which is the most important thing.
And I haven't read P.G. Wodehouse yet, but I keep meaning too! I love Jeeves and Wooster too!

Date: 2007-10-12 06:17 pm (UTC)I just finished Murder Must Advertise and Unnatural Death, and have Gaudy Night waiting for me, but I think I need to first read the book where Lord Peter initially meets/becomes enamoured with Harriet. :)
