Well, I didn't finish NaNoWriMo this year, by a long shot. Still on chapter 2! I think that qualifies as a failure of titanic proportions, but I figure heck, I actually started one this year, so that's a big improvement over years past, in and of itself! And I think I'm going to make December unofficial NaNo extension month. :)

On the TV front, PBS has been airing a new mystery series that I'm completely hooked on. Murdoch Mysteries is set in 1895 Toronto, which is a refreshing change from all the English mysteries you usually see. No one loves a good old English whodunit like I do, especially a period one, but Victorian Canada is a much less familiar locale than Victorian London as far as TV goes, so it's actually kind of an exotic twist. Being based on modern books, it can be a bit more gross than most Victorian stuff, lots of maggots in corpses and bodies in trunks and things like that, but the main characters are still pure and wholesome, and it's very well done in general. I love the character of the lady medical examiner, she's so weird, always giggling over autopsies and stuff, but the one drawback of the whole show, for me, is her wardrobe. (Costumer rant mode on!) They always have her with her hair down, and walking around town without a jacket. In the 19th century, respectable upper-class ladies, especially professional ladies, wore their hair up at all times, and were fully suited in public, that's just the way it was. It's fine to have her in shirt sleeves in the morgue when she's working, but really, when she goes to crime scenes, put her hair up and put her in a jacket and hat, wardrobe department! (Costumer rant mode off!)

Also, I think I'm an Ugly Betty fan. My mom has watched the show since it started, but I generally ignored it as much as I could, since it's American network TV, and hence, automatically worthy of contempt. However, I'm usually around when she's watching it, and you can't help getting interested to some degree when you've seen almost every episode. I find I've been rushing in to find out what happens whenever she turns it on, and my mom is usually like "Leave me alone! I'm watching this!" and I'm like "But OMG did they get Daniel away from that cult?!" So yeah, I AM a fan. But you can't help but root for Betty, she's so nice, even though she really should focus more on her career and less on taking care of other people. Okay I'm a Big Huge Major Fan.
