Well, it finally snowed. I can deny the coming of winter no longer. Drat! But December 1st does seem sort of appropriate for the first snow of the season, and you gotta have a white Christmas, after all!

Been hugely distracted from useful tasks by a most enchanting book, Les Petites Dames de Mode: An Adventure in Design by John R. Burbidge. It's all photos of these miniature mannequins this guy dresses in the most exquisite reproduction Belle Epoque fashions you've ever seen. They look like life size mannequins wearing period gowns from a museum (except for a few dresses that had pearls the same size as the mannequin's arm, scale is a very important thing to remember!) and they're utterly beautiful. And very motivational for me, since those are the sort of doll clothes I've wanted to make since I was a kid, and to see that someone else has already done it, kind of makes one feel as though the gauntlet has been thrown down! I really, really want to start some new dolly sewing projects now! But I'm still working on other stuff, so we'll see how it goes. At least I can swoon over the pictures in this book until I have time to make some of my own!

Also on the list of good things, I'm incredibly cheered by the fact that the Doctor Who Christmas special will actually air on Christmas here in the States! It's dreadful to have to wait till the next summer, and it'll give me something to do on Christmas, since it's a singularly boring holiday if you don't have a huge family that you actually want to spend time with. Quite honestly, the only thing I really want for Christmas is free time that I can use to get some sewing done!
