good things (& it's my birthday)

The past couple of weeks have been just fantastic! On the 15th I went to a concert and saw Plain White Ts AND Fitz and the Tantrums!!! It was an outdoor concert but thankfully the weather was amazingly good, clear skies and 60 degrees during the day, which is great for Wisconsin in October! Plain White T's were good, and it was pretty perfect to stand under the blue skies with the sun shining and the geese flying over head while they played 'Rhythm of Love' (sigh!). But Fitz and the Tantrums are one of my favorite bands, and they were AMAZING. Even despite the fact that they're from LA and were not digging the cold, they put on one hell of a great show anyway. And as a pleasant surprise they actually showed up afterward to sign things and talk to fans! They were really nice, and I got my album signed, and Fitz even asked my name and shook my hand and everything! Super cool!! (And seriously, Noelle Scaggs is just too beautiful in person!)
And then on the 19th Paul O. Zelinsky was in town for the book festival with the author of the latest book he illustrated, so I went to go see them, and he signed my copies of Rumpelstiltskin and Rapunzel! They were and still are my absolute favorite illustrated versions of those tales, and two of my all time favorite picture books ever. Rumpelstiltskin in particular, is the gold standard to me, it's just perfect and there'll never be one better. Those two books, along with all the animated Disney fairy tales I watched as a kid, have had such a huge influence on my entire life; they're the reason I love folklore and art history now that I'm an adult. It's nice to actually meet the author to tell them so.
And today is my birthday, I'm 25! I feel old! But I always feel old, and I ate a huge birthday breakfast and am happy. Whole wheat pancakes are happiness.
And the skating season started last weekend! And they actually showed ice dance! I got to see Davis & White skate not one but TWO new programs on the same day! Life is sweet indeed. October has officially rocked this year. :)
